YW Values Necklace

My niece recently turned 12 and I was seriously stumped on what to get her. She fits more onto the tom boy end of the spectrum, so lacy, girly, pink things are not really high on her list.

In my church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, when a girl turns 12 years old she begins the Young Women's program. I know I was really excited to be able to start Young Women's, so I decided to try and make her a gift that would commemorate that and help get her excited!

Here is what I came up with.... a washer necklace! Her favorite color is blue and I am hoping that the denim look of the paper I used will appeal to her. Technically speaking it is reversible too!

After a million design iterations and the advice of two good friends(Thanks Jax and Janell) I love how it turned out. I really like how it has the values on there. I think this would be such a fun project for New Beginnings, or something a Beehive leader could make for new girls. Camp necklaces anyone?

Hope she likes it!!

Update: She did like it! (Or at least she is a pretty good actress.)
I've been getting some requests to sell these, so if you are interested in having some made for your teen or Young Women's group, send me an email at cuteasafoxcreations@gmail.com and we can discuss pricing, design, etc.

  3. I really love it. I made a couple of these necklaces ( http://plumslife.blogspot.com/2010/03/washer-necklaces.html ) and I had a hard time with what to string them on. First I used the leather ropes (is that what you used?) but I found they would never really lie flat. Then I tried these strings and I just don't love it. Any advice? Also, what kind of clasp did you use?
