Our apron (way less than $75): The best part was that when he opened the apron, he thought my sister had gone back and paid the money for the apron. Win!

To make the apron, we modified this apron pattern found at WeAllSew.com.
Modifications we made:
- Add 6 inches to the length. We wanted it to hit right around the knee
- For the neck strap, I added D-rings to one side instead of the grommets.
- Added two pockets to the front for tools.
