I’m so excited to share today’s post with you. I got the idea for this design months ago. It took me awhile to get it just right then. Then it took another month or so to actually make it and share it with you! I think it was worth the wait. I’m just recently introduced my daughter to The Little Mermaid and she loves it! It was my favorite Disney movie growing up and it makes me so happy to see her enjoy it too.
I love Ariel’s spirit of adventure and I thought it would be fun to try my hand at some word art. I think it came out pretty great. May I present, my Adventurous Mermaid….
I cut the design out using my Silhouette Cameo and heat transfer vinyl. I love that stuff! Heat Transfer Material makes it so easy to spruce up clothes. I bought a heat press to apply my designs, but you can easily do these with an iron. If you use the Silhouette brand heat transfer material, the instructions are right on the box. The one really important thing to remember when you work with heat transfer is that you always have to mirror your design with you cut. Otherwise, it will go on your shirt backwards!
I didn’t want to stop at the design on the front, so I added a scalloped shell to each sleeve. I really think it adds a fun little detail to the shirt.
Here’s what the design looks like, as I designed it on my computer.
What good is designing something, if I can’t share it? Today I’m going to share a .STUDIO version and a .SVG version of the file. The only catch is that, this is for personal use only. Do NOT sell or profit in any way from something you make with this design. Do not redistribute the file anywhere. If your friend sees it and loves it, please send them on over here to download it themselves.
If you need some supplies to get started on making your own shirts, Silhouette is having a sale going on right now! You can buy a Silhouette bundle that comes with printable heat transfer sheets and the heat transfer starter kit. If you already have a Silhouette, you can get 30% off all heat transfer materials with code CUTEFOX.
If you use the mermaid design to make something, I would love to see it! Happy creating!
